James Robert Harbin developed a small town affection as he grew up in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas where he was inspired by his family physician and also by a local pharmacist.  he hurried through two years of pre-pharmacy work at Arkansas State University followed by matriculation at the University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy in Little Rock.  At twenty-two years of age he was one of the youngest pharmacy school graduates in the history of the University.  Several years followed where he gained valuable experience in both retail and hospital pharmacy.  He learned about osteopathic medicine from a fellow pharmacist who was leaving Arkansas to pursue a D.O. degree at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Dr. Harbin felt a calling to follow his friend to seek an osteopathic education in Kansas City.  He returned to North Central Arkansas in 1983 and spent his next 30 years providing Osteopathic Family Medical care to the underserved.  Dr. Harbin lists having the privilege of serving his fellow Arkansans and serving as the first president of the Arkansas Osteopathic Medical Association as two of his greatest honors.  He says he is also honored and thankful to be asked to serve as Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
