Kate Buffey DO comes to ARCOM after graduating from a Family and Community Medicine Residency in central IL. She attended Olivet Nazarene University where she majored in Chemistry and Biology. During college Dr. Buffey participated in both a traveling orchestra and choir and was fortunate to visit Israel by singing at an international choir festival. After graduating from college, she worked as a pharmaceutical chemist, married the love of her life, and began to grow her family. Five amazing children later, she still desired to become an osteopathic physician. Only applying to osteopathic institutions, Dr. Buffey embraced the osteopathic tenets of body, mind, and spirit, and loved learning and applying Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments.

Dr. Buffey attended Midwestern University (Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine) for her first two years of medical school but then transferred to A.T. Still University (Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine) to remain close to her family during clinical rotations. Thriving on challenges, Dr. Buffey readily admits she took the road less traveled as a non-traditional medical student and resident. Knowing that life experience teaches lessons not often gleaned from textbooks, she hopes to champion non-traditional students at ARCOM and has a special passion for those juggling parenthood with education. Throughout college, pharmaceutical chemistry, motherhood, medical school, and residency, Dr. Buffey has enjoyed teaching and works to match instruction to specific learning styles.

Dr. Buffey loves hospital medicine and desires to continue to develop her skills by participating in the Fort Smith medical community. At ARCOM, she anticipates integrating family medicine with osteopathic manipulative treatment. When not working, she enjoys hiking with her family, gardening, cooking, and tackling DIY projects (aka playing with power tools).
