Lesley Schmitz, DO graduated in 2001 from the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. She is a board licensed specialist in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and has taught and practiced this specialty at her Texas alma mater as well as served patients at both the university and in private practice.

Dr. Schmitz is particularly interested in how posture and gait can affect painful musculoskeletal issues as well as overall wellness.  She is a strong advocate for patient education and empowering them to have the knowledge and skills to better manage their own health.  She often gives her patients “homework” so they can realize that through positive action and the inherent ability of the body to heal itself, they can become advocates for their own care.

In the classroom, Dr. Schmitz is just as passionate about teaching her students osteopathic philosophy and principles with a focus on both critical and deductive thinking skills. She views the opportunity to be part of a new school and to help create the foundational framework as an honor.

Dr. Schmitz was born in London, England and moved to the United States with her family as a child. Growing up in New York, she has spent most of her life in Texas with her husband where they raised three children. She and her husband chose NW Arkansas for the beauty of the land and the opportunity to start a small homestead. She enjoys skiing, sailing, various craft projects, and gardening. In fact, her husband reports that she has “mud in her veins”

Dr. Schmitz reports that she is ready to serve the students of our community so that together, they may then serve the communities of NW Arkansas and the river valley.
